Black History Websites
Africans in America - Quite possibly the best site on the web for the study and understanding of the institution of slavery in America. This companion site to the recent PBS documentary series contains a historical narrative concerning the African experience, extensive resources and links for each episode of the series, and a teachers guide for each episode.
The African-American Mosaic - A Library of Congress Resource Guide for the Study of Black History and Culture - An online exhibit from the Library of Congress, including a section on the abolition movement.
Black History Month from the Learning Network - This site from the Learning Network might be one the best on the web. It has a variety of timelines and special features, including a neat site on the Negro Leagues.
Black History - A very nice site from the New York Institute for Special Education.
Excerpts from Slave Narratives - Edited by Steven Mintz of the University of Houston, this site has an incredible amount of primary sources concerning the slave experience - a must-see in the study of slavery in the United States.
The Underground Railroad from National Geographic and The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center are two great sites for info on the URR.
AfroAmeric@ - A great site created by AroniSoft, LLC in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. The site covers many topics concerning African American history and also serves as a resource for black culture, commerce, and current news.
Honoring the father of Black History Month - An informative article about Carter G. Woodson, the father of Black History Month.
CNN’s Black History Month - This website offers several relevant news stories and websites, as well as listings of art and literature with African-American themes. An interactive site, it includes a segment titled “What You Think” so you may offer feedback and read feedback from others.

American Experience | The Time of the Lincolns - A companion to the PBS documentary on Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln. Black Book - The True Political Philosophy of Malcolm X - Read an analysis of the work of Malcolm X from his early days to his conversion to Islam.
Malcolm X - A tribute to the black Nationalist leader supplies a photo gallery and poems written by others about the man. Includes interviews and articles.

World War I Websites
Trenches on the Web - An Internet History of the Great War - One of the best sites online for WWI history, and most popular among search engines. According to the author, “these pages contain information on the people, places, and events that comprised one of the worst calamities of modern history.”
Photos of the Great War - “Photos of the Great War” is an imagebase dedicated to the study of the First World War. Its mission is to provide photos to historians, wargamers, students, webmasters, or anyone with an interest in WWI. But more than this, it is a tribute to everyone whose life was lost or altered by this terrible conflict. Their memories live on, in some small way, through these images. In companion with the WWI Document Archive at Brigham Young University.
The Great War - The companion site to the Great War television series created by PBS. The site gives a global overview of the war (as does the series), and the maps and locations section is helpful in understanding the progression of the conflict.
The World War I Document Archive - A fine resource for firsthand accounts of the war.
The Spartacus Internet Encyclopedia: The First World War - An excellent site focusing mostly on the British experience of World War I. However, there are multiple entries for American topics.
The Western Front Association - Site designed by two members of the WFA with a great deal of information on the battle in France. Timelines, maps, and other links are plentiful.
World War II Websites
World War II Exhibit - A People at War - The National Archives and Records Administration presents photographs of American servicemen, volunteers and civilians involved in the conflict.
HyperWar - World War II on the World Wide Web - This WWII compendium boasts political papers, statements, treaties, military histories, and details on the European and Pacific theaters of operation.
World at War: History of WWII, 1939-1945 - A comprehensive resource that provides an in-depth analysis of the conflict and its key players. The site includes background details, a forum, and links.
World War II - Post War Events - Find out what happened after the war, from 1945 to 1952, when US citizens experienced a disconnect between international and domestic affairs. Includes a brief discussion of The Containment Policy, the Korean War, and the end of the Truman Era.
Museums and Exhibits
Smithsonian Institution - The official website of the Smithsonian Museums (most of which are located in Washington, DC). Their online resources include exhibit information for all 15 major museums including the Air and Space Museum, American History Museum, Natural History Museum, and even the National Zoo.
American Museum of Natural History - The American Museum of Natural History is a landmark on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The museum has a scientific staff of more than 200, and sponsors over 100 special field expeditions each year.
Jamestown Rediscovery - Excavation since 1994 has uncovered hundreds of thousands of artifacts dating to the first half of the 17th century. Nearly half of the objects date to the first years of English settlement (1607-1610). This website houses a detailed map and inventory of the findings, as well as the history and timeline of Jamestown.
