If American sniper wins anything big, I may vomit. Thanks for inviting me to play, even though I haven’t seen a lot of the favorites, I go to a lot of movies.

Hi Greg - you are so creative in keeping the fun and connections in our lives. Thanks for the Oscars pick each year. My mission is nearly complete in seeing the big Hollywood movies and am now starting on the Foreign flicks. It takes so much time...but I will stay the course! : ) Miss you...come see us!

“The Last Time I saw Paris” is significant because it was the last song nominated for an Oscar that wasn’t insipid.

“The Last Time I Saw Paris”-was it because it was not technically the original song to the movie but won for Best Original Song?

I think I like Big Dave’s answer better, but don’t think “Lose Yourself” by Eminem is considered “insipid.”

Overture to “its a mad mad mad world”😀

The song was not written for the movie, and the rules were as a result changed to require that nominated songs must be written for a movie. (I’m now going to Wikipedia and editing that information out of the Wiki entry so that no one else can read it and submit it.)

Regarding the historical significance of “The Last Time I saw Paris” in Oscar history, I believe you are referring to the fact that the songs composer, Jerome Kern, was so upset at winning with a song that had not been specifically written for a motion picture, that he successfully petitioned the Motion Picture Academy to change the rules. Since 1941, a nominated song must be written specifically for the motion picture in which it is performed. (Also, this was Kern’s second Oscar. He won for “The Way You Look Tonight” in 1936.

Sorry, Patrick Currie, I got to Wikipedia before you were able to edit out the pertinent information.

I have no idea and I don’t have flash, so I will say.....the one from Selma, which I don’t know the name, but it is the only one I can think of at the moment....are we going to get movie popcorn delivered to our house next Sunday night?

Hi Greg . . . hope you get lots of responses this year. I’m lucky if I saw one or two of the films nominated. My answers are a combination of guessing and internet help. Talk to you later!

It’s a little known fact, but there was a sequel to The Last Time I saw Paris. Bogart and Bergman teamed up to do We’ll Always Have Paris, though it is widely believed that Andy Williams sang the Bergman part. Bogart did high harmony, while Walter Brennan handled the arrangement.

I saw all the best pictures, actors and actresses. A few of the documentaries and foreign films but not all. And none of the shorts or animated categories. So I guessed on those! Of course some of the picks are not necessarily my favorites but who I think will win. I absolutely loved “Boyhood”. It is one to see more than once as it is so much to take in the first time! I seem to be the only person in the world who saw “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby” and I loved it! And “A Most Violent Year”. Jessica Chastain is one of my favorite actresses and she was fantastic in both. I did not mention The fact that Amy Adams was not nominated for “Big Eyes”. She was wonderful and won the Golden Globe...Curious. Have fun and I will be thinking of you when I am watching!

Hi Kids! I didn’t see a lot of what I voted for. But I wanted t participate this year so I just threw a few guesses in there. BIrdman blew me away. I’ve always loved Keaton.
I feel sorry for Streep, how embarrassing to be nominated AGAIN.

Significant Song: “Moon River” in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”
Why?: It was sung to a cat that looks like Anna’s beloved cat Tiger who may have reincarnated to be with us after his breakout role.

“The Last Time I Saw Paris” was not written for the film “Lady Be Good,” but it still won Best Song anyway.
