Saw that there are no posts for 2013. Guess I’ll be the first! Wishing both of you a great New Year’s.

Well......the only movie we have seen is Lincoln. It was very good. We don’t really know enough about the others to have an opinion as to who is going to be the top contender. We really need to start going to the movies more!

Kris and I are looking forward to comparing our Oscar picks. We’ll have time to watch the show now that the “Downton Abbey” season is over. Why did they kill Matthew??

I don’t know the answers to your questions. Marty was the shortest film to actually win the award for best film, though I think we all can agree it was plenty long enough as it was. And I read somewhere that Driving Miss Daisy was the only film in the past 80 years to win best film without winning best director. Surely that’s because whoever directed it was up against Kevin Costner and Dancing with Wolves. How could you beat someone who, as Pauline Kael noted, directed with “feathers on his head and feathers in his head?”

Okay, I know Miss Daisy came out the year before Dancing. And you’re right, I just wanted to repeat Kael’s great line. Sorry.

You should have a question that asks how many of the nominated Liam’s have you seen. It is harder to pick the ones you haven’t seen.
